“The best folk band to have come out of Scotland in the last twenty years” New York Times

“The best band of their generation” The Living Tradition

“A band with the potential to dominate the Scottish/Irish traditional scene for the next twenty years” Fatea Magazine

Scotland’s Paul McKenna has long been ranked among our finest younger singers and songwriters. His powerful yet intensely emotive voice and passionate social conscience, often expressed through his songs, is a combination that’s brought frequent comparisons to the great Dick Gaughan.

He and his band – comprising Robbie Greig (fiddle), Conal McDonagh (pipes/whistles), Conor Markey (banjo/bouzouki/guitars) and Ewan Baird (percussion) – draw on both Scottish and Irish roots, in a dynamic, full-bodied array of original and traditional material, along with songs by like-minded authors.

We look forward to welcoming you, all tickets are on sale and expect to sell a full house.  There will be a number of measures in place to reduce risk. So please note the following.

  • We will not reserve empty seats between household groups as has been the case at previous CatStrand events. There will probably be someone sat in the seats next to you.
  • As per government guidance, masks are required to be worn inside and throughout the performance, unless you are sat down and eating or drinking or have a medical exemption.
  • 1m distancing should be maintained at all other times.
  • Our new ventilation system will be installed.  This filters the air and will ensure good air-flow.
  • For everyone’s reassurance and safety, we politely request that audience members take a lateral flow test prior to attending. These are free and can be done at home or at a testing site.  See www.nhsdg.co.uk/testing for up to date advice on where to obtain the tests.
  • Full refunds will be available if cancelling due to a positive test or if displaying symptoms.
